Ashridge House Wedding 1

Alex and Sophie’s Ashridge House wedding was nothing short of magical. From the moment they arrived, you could feel the excitement in the air, and as the day unfolded, it just kept getting better. The morning was full of happy nerves and laughter, the ceremony was packed with emotion, and the celebrations that followed? Absolutely unforgettable. Every little detail, from the stunning florals to the joyful energy of their guests, came together to create something truly special.

Ashridge House in Hertfordshire is one of those wedding venues that instantly takes your breath away. It’s grand, it’s historic, and everywhere you look, there’s something beautiful—whether it’s the stunning architecture, the incredible gardens, or the little hidden corners that make for the most gorgeous photos. It’s the kind of place that makes a wedding feel extra special, and honestly, I never get tired of capturing love stories here. No matter the season, Ashridge House always brings that perfect mix of elegance and romance, and it’s easy to see why so many couples fall in love with it.

Ashridge House Wedding Videographer

On this particular occasion, I had the absolute pleasure of being Alex and Sophie’s Ashridge House wedding videographer, and I was over the moon about it! There’s something so special about capturing a wedding on film—the way movement, emotion, and little in-between moments come together to tell a couple’s story in the most beautiful way. And at a venue like Ashridge House? It doesn’t get much better than that. From the very start of the day, I knew this was going to be one to remember. The energy, the emotions, the love between these two—it was all there, and I couldn’t wait to capture every second of it.

One of my favorite parts of their Ashridge House wedding film was weaving in the emotional speeches from their family and friends. The heartfelt words from Sophie’s dad, the way Alex looked at her during the vows, and the laughter during the best man’s speech—it all added so much to their story. Photos capture expressions beautifully, but video lets you hear the emotion in their voices, the little pauses, the joy in the room. Those tiny moments, when captured on film, make the memories feel so alive.

I arrived at Ashridge House three hours before the ceremony, and with the sun shining and the venue looking absolutely incredible, I knew I had to take advantage of the perfect weather. I sent up the drone to capture some breathtaking establishing shots of the house and its stunning grounds—it’s always amazing to see this place from above, with its grand architecture and perfectly manicured gardens stretching out in every direction.

Once I had those sweeping aerial shots, I moved inside to capture some of the pre-ceremony moments. The atmosphere was a mix of excitement and anticipation, with Sophie and her bridal party getting ready in one of Ashridge House’s elegant suites, surrounded by laughter and last-minute touches. Meanwhile, Alex and his groomsmen were just a few rooms away, sharing jokes and adjusting ties, making the most of the calm before the big moment. These early parts of the day are some of my favorites to film—there’s such a natural energy in the air, and it’s amazing to see the story start to unfold even before the ceremony begins.

Ceremonies at Ashridge House are always breathtaking, thanks to the stunning cantilevered staircase that winds its way around the Main Hall. Most couples choose to stand at the bottom of the staircase, framed by its grandeur, but Alex and Sophie decided to do things a little differently. They exchanged vows in front of the elegant fireplace, directly opposite the base of the staircase, creating an intimate and unique setup that felt so personal to them.

The moment they stood together, surrounded by their closest family and friends, you could feel just how much this day meant to them. But what truly made this ceremony unforgettable were their vows. If you haven’t already, I strongly recommend watching the film above to fully appreciate how heartfelt and beautifully personal they were. Sometimes, words carry more weight than anything else, and Alex and Sophie’s vows were some of the most touching I’ve ever heard.

With the ceremony over, we shifted our focus to capturing the natural, unscripted moments of the day as Alex and Sophie celebrated with their guests during the drinks reception. This part of the wedding is always such a joy to film—everyone is relaxed, laughter fills the air, and the newlyweds get to soak in all the love and excitement around them.

Our approach to wedding videography has always been to let things flow naturally. Rather than staging moments, we prefer to capture the day as it unfolds, allowing Bride and Groom to be fully present and enjoy every second of their celebration. The little glances, the hugs, the clinking of glasses—these are the moments that bring a wedding film to life, and there was no shortage of them on this beautiful day.

After the drinks reception, we made our way to Repton Hall for the wedding breakfast and speeches. And honestly, this part of the day always flies by because it’s just so good. The food, the chatter, the glasses clinking—everyone’s in that perfect happy zone. The speeches had the whole room going through all the emotions—one minute everyone was tearing up, the next they were cracking up. It’s those little reactions that made this Ashridge House wedding so special, and we loved capturing every bit of it.

Then came the dance floor… and wow, what a party! We always love this part of the night, and Alex and Sophie’s crew absolutely brought the energy. The music was pumping, the dance moves got wilder as the night went on, and we were right in the middle of it, filming all the best (and funniest) moments. This is why we love what we do—catching people having the time of their lives so they can relive it all over again.

Just when everyone thought the night couldn’t get any better, Alex and Sophie had one last surprise up their sleeves—a fireworks display to wrap up the celebrations! Guests had no idea what was coming, and their reactions were priceless as the first bursts lit up the sky. It was the perfect way to end such an incredible day, with everyone gathered outside, watching the colors explode over Ashridge House.

Being Alex and Sophie’s Ashridge House wedding videographer was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. Their day was filled with so much love, laughter, and unforgettable moments, and capturing it all was an incredible experience. Ashridge House is such a spectacular venue, and I’d be over the moon to photograph or film more love stories here in Hertfordshire. If you’re planning your wedding at Ashridge House and want a film that brings all the emotions of the day back to life, I’d love to hear from you!
